Watfords Of Wombwell converted
this grade 2 listed former miners hostel for Equity Housing association
in the historic conservation village of Elsecar.
Our remit was to convert the
existing 14 bed sits into eight self contained apartments offered as shared
ownership on the open market. some tenants remained in-situ whilst the
work was taking place. Certain other repairs were carried out to the fabric
of the building to meet the stringent requirements of the local planning
and conservation officers.
This included work to the roof,
stonework repairs and replacement of windows with conservation timber
sliding sash windows. The window replacement was complicated by the fact
that most of the openings were on 'the skew' due to
mining subsidence.
